Our story

Established in 1982 by Jardine Matheson, the Jardine Foundation is dedicated to developing the leaders of tomorrow by improving access to higher education. Our mission is to support outstanding individuals as they acquire the knowledge and skills to develop successful careers and contribute to society.

At the core of our work is the provision of full scholarships, covering tuition fees and living expenses, for exceptional students to pursue studies at prestigious universities. Through strategic collaborations with our partner universities, the Jardine Foundation actively works to provide access to higher education by students from 11+ countries and territories where Jardine Matheson and our portfolio companies operate..

Our scholarship schemes support both undergraduate and postgraduate studies at leading institutions:

Undergraduate Scholarships

We offer opportunities for students from Cambodia, the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam to undertake undergraduate studies at the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge. Aspiring local students in Hong Kong and Indonesia can also apply for full scholarships to pursue undergraduate degrees at the University of Hong Kong and Universitas Gadjah Mada, respectively.

Postgraduate Scholarships

We offer opportunities for candidates from Cambodia, the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam to undertake postgraduate courses at the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge. We also support postgraduate Vietnamese students at Fulbright University Vietnam.

Scholarship value

Each scholarship awarded is sufficient to cover course fees, and the cost of books and equipment. Reasonable living expenses are also provided under all schemes except the Jardine-Fulbright scheme. Under the Oxford and Cambridge Schemes, travel expenses to and from the University at the start and end of the course are also covered. 

The Scholarship Package includes:

• Payment of university tuition fees directly to the university. 
• An annual stipend to cover board, lodging, and incidental expenses^
• Coverage of the UK Immigration Health Surcharge*
• Reimbursement of a standard economy class airfare from the scholar’s place of residence to the United Kingdom at the commencement of the scholarship, and for the return journey upon completion of the scholarship period. *

Internships

Undergraduate Scholars may apply for the Summer Internship Programme, offered by a number of Jardines’ regional businesses. This programme offers placements within Jardines’ businesses, combined with a structured learning and development component designed to equip scholars with essential skills for transitioning into a work environment.  

Scholar and alumni networking

Current scholars and alumni benefit from access to a global network of peers, fostering both professional and social engagement. Networking opportunities include regular regional events, and mentoring sessions held throughout the year. The Scholar and alumni network is also supported by dedicated social media platforms, enabling the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and experiences.
